FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you work with?
I am willing to work with anyone who wants to make a positive change in their life. My clients range from ages 10 to 87. I work with individuals, families, small businesses, and nonprofits. Before agreeing to work with a client, I meet them in their space. We get to know each other and discuss their project. If we both feel it’s a good fit, we work together!
How much will it cost to work with The Beautiful Sort?
I charge a flat, hourly rate for my services. I typically recommend weekly or biweekly three-hour sessions. See my Services page for up-to-date pricing.
How long will it take to get my space organized?
Predicting how long a project will take is difficult. Variables such as density of clutter, size of space, and client cooperation can impact timeline. I recommend weekly or biweekly, three-hour sessions. We are often able to complete a room in three sessions. See my Process page for more information.
Do you do design work?
I love interior design! My style is cozy, minimalist, and practical. In addition to designing my own home, I have done design work for clients. However, I have no formal training as an interior designer. My design clients are typically looking to give their home an unfussy, affordable facelift.
Do you haul?
At the end of each organizing session, clients and I remove any garbage and donations from the space. I am happy to take dry garbage and donations with me upon request. See my Services page for up-to-date pricing.
What happens to items that you haul?
I take donated items to the charities or organizations that my client requests. If my client has no location preference, I donate to local (to me) charities, nonprofits, and schools. Donation locations include:
Art of Recycle
COBY’s
Community Aid
Creative Reuse
Ephrata Reuse It
Habitat for Humanity Restore
Jubilee Ministries
Lancaster Humane League
Manheim Township School District
Off the Streets
Paying It Forward
River’s Place
When disposing of trash, I work to follow best practices for environmentally safe disposal. Disposal locations that I frequent include:
CVS Pharmacy medication disposal
Green Disk
Lancaster County Solid Waste Management
Do you assist with selling or consigning items?
No. I work with clients to quickly declutter their homes. Items that we remove from client homes are responsibly donated or disposed of.
I am moving. Can you help?
Yes. Moving is one of life’s greatest stressors. I can help alleviate some of that stress. I assist with packing and unpacking. I also support clients in deciding on furniture layout and organizing their new spaces.
Homes sell more quickly and for more money when they are free of clutter. I assist sellers in decluttering their home before it hits the market.
Can I gift your services?
Yes. You can purchase gift cards at my Store or schedule a session with me as a gift.
Can you work with my spouse or relative?
Maybe. I am willing to work with anyone who wants to make a positive change in their life. However, I am not willing to work with an adult who is not voluntarily working with me. I’m happy to meet with unenthusiastic, potential clients, but we will not work together unless we both choose to.
Do you work with kids?
Yes! I was a middle school and high school English teacher for fifteen years. And, I’m a mom. I help kids build skills for personal and academic organization. I believe everyone, even kids, knows what they need in order to be successful. I work to help kids identify their needs and take steps towards success.
I have up-to-date child abuse clearances, available upon request.
I rent a storage unit. Can you help?
One in ten Americans rent a storage unit, so this is a common request. I love assisting my clients in eliminating the need for their storage units. This is an example of how hiring a professional organizer literally pays for itself.
Do you work with neurodivergent clients?
Yes! The traditional advice about how to stay organized and keep house doesn’t work for many of my clients, particularly my neurodivergent clients. I love helping my clients overcome the frustration (and sometimes shame) they feel around housework. There is no one correct way to keep house. Clients and I experiment with strategies until we find solutions that work.
I struggle with hoarding. Can you help?
I’d love to. I work with people in hoarding stages 1 or 2. Recovering from hoarding is challenging and decluttering can bring up a lot of emotions. I don’t need to know anything about your mental health journey, but I prefer clients who are actively addressing their mental health needs.
If you are at hoarding stages 3, 4, or 5, I recommend contacting Address Our Mess.
